PILLAR MOUNTAIN who has taken a while to come to himself after some minor issues, ran a very brace race when winning a $ 96,000 allowance race at Belmont on Thursday. Way off the pace behind runaway leaders, he closed nicely and battle through a tightening gap in the last 1/2 furlong to win by a nose. On the gallop out he was pulling away from the field.,
This loger trip was definitely in his favour . He would have won more cosily had the runner up’s rider not deliberately intimidated him and tried to close off the gap that had appeared on the rail. I was surprised that no steward’s enquiry was held but I have ceased to understand the officiating both here and worldwide.
Still it was a nice win and I look forward to seeing him run in a Black Type race soon.
