For the first time ever I believe I managed to buy the first two finishers in the same Stakes race

on Sunday in The La puente Stakes SURREY STAR won the race and MAJOR ART finished a close 2nd. I hit the exacta .  It was a great effort from both horses. SURREY STAR ( jim Cassidy) managed to get a rail saving trip and managed to hold on to a lead from the fast finishing MAJOR ART ( eric Kruljac) who had to go wide on the final turn but was closing with every stride.

 

Both horses raced ( and were purchased) for Class Racing, Major Art privately and Surrey Star at the Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale. Yesterday I had jockingly told Joe MAsino of Class Racing that the best result would be a dead heat and we got fairly close to that today.

 

A lovely result. My only disappointment is that there seem to be no obvious races for these colts in California. With Hollywood Park, in their wisdom...laugh.... having cancelled the Will Rogers Gr 3 and THe Cinema Handicap, there does not seem to be anywhere to run a 3yo colt until the Del Mar meet, at least not in California so I expect to see these two colts on the road quite soon

 

Congratulations  to all involved and I will leave for NEwmarket on Tuesday with a smile on my fac e and a determination to find some goold horses at the Breeze Up Sale in NEwmarket
