MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
LAst night SPANISH MISSION lined up for the inaugural US$ 1,000,000 Belmont Invitational Derby as the 21/20 favourite.
Held up at the back of the field he came out in the straight and quickly passed most of his rivals. Jamie Spencer then lost his right rein and had to urge the colt forward with body and crop. In the end he prevailed by a short nose to win this important race. Had Spencer not lost his rein the victory would have most likely been more decisive.
Still a fantastic training preformance from David Simcock and I am delighted for the co owners Team, Valor ( for whom I bought the horse) and Earle Mack.
I would say the Breeders Cup might be tempting, but the long term plans are the Melbourne Cup at the end of next year, so that is probably it for the season for Spanish Mission
This colt improves with every run and is probably going to be an even better four year old.
Lots of excitement to look forward to with him
