TRAGEDIES and PUZZLEMENT

Not a good week for grass racing in California.
In the space of two days, there was a fatality in each of the grass Stakes Races last weekend
Unforutantely the first concerned AMBOSELI a daughter of Medaglia d'Oro which I had bought for DP Racing at Arqana a few years ago. She shattered a hind cannon bone and had to be euthaised. It was made all the sadder because this was slated to be her last race before she retired to the breeding shed. I am so sorry for Deron Pearson and Jim Cassidy
Then the following day another filly shattered some part of her hind leg in the GR 3 Megahertz Stakes.
Surely there is something not right when  this happens . Various contacts have told me that the main track on which they train is in poor condition but remarkably from what I  have read there has been little outcry about these deaths

We sent MIA TESORO out to Dubai to race on fast turf to try to get some Group placing with her so we were more than a little surprisewd when she ran badly on turf which the jockey said had been heavily watered and was very loose on top. As far as I know they had had no rain. I do wonder ( not just about Dubai) about the policy of clerks of the course watering excessively. No-one wants horses to run on rock hard ground where their safety could be compromised, but surely as long as it is safe, leave the ground as nature sees fit. I mean we don't bring out the hairdryers when the ground goes soft do we?

Then we had more frustration with trying to buy some new horses for clients. The prices people are asking ( and in some cases getting) is just insane. I mean 500,000 for a modest all weather maiden winner?? SOmething needs to be readjusted.

Not much to report on the results front. Waiting for somne nice horses to finish rehab and get back on the track
